Bulleit
Bold American bourbon from Kentucky with a unique rye-based recipe, somewhere between the edge of rye whiskey and corn whiskey.
Augustus Bulleit, a tavern keeper in the 1830s, was dedicated to a single goal: the creation of a bourbon unique in flavour. After endless experimenting, he finally came upon the result he had long sought after.
A unique blend of rye, corn, and barley malt, and special strains of yeast – these are the ingredients of Bulleit. The original mash bill used one-third rye and two-thirds corn, making it a rye whiskey rather than a bourbon. The pure Kentucky limestone filtered water enhances the flavour complexity of the drink. Thanks to its especially high rye content, Bulleit Bourbon has a bold, spicy character.
Bulleit Bourbon was very popular until one fateful day in 1860. On this day, while transporting his barrels of bourbon to New Orleans, Augustus Bulleit vanished. To this day, no one knows what happened. His recipe nearly disappeared into history along with him.
Thomas E. Bulleit Jr. discovered the recipes of his great-great-grandfather in the 1980s and felt the need to respect the family’s legacy and revive the production of bourbon. Thus, in 1987, he took a bold step: he left a successful law practice and started the Bulleit Distilling
Company.
To this day, Bulleit bourbon is distilled in the Bulleit family tradition. Their bourbon still contains a lot of rye, but the original recipe has been updated: the mash bill is 68% corn, 28% rye, and 4% malted barley. However, charred oak barrels are still used to age bourbon, lending it distinct smokey notes.
Bulleit is still produced in Kentucky, but the brand is owned by the multinational company Diageo.
WHY BULLEIT?
Unique rye burbon
Bulleit is primarily known as rye whiskey. Due to its especially high rye content, Bulleit Bourbon has a distinctively dry, clean, and bold flavour.
Awesome vintage bottle
Bulleit bottles its whiskey in vintage bottles to further showcase the traditional nature of the drink. These bottles are in demand among crafters as they can be used to make beautiful lamps, soap dispensers and candle holders.
From barrel to bottle
The special Bulleit Barrel Strength gives whiskey lovers the opportunity to taste authentic and pure whiskey – it is bottled straight from the barrel. Barrel Strength has also won several prestigious awards.
Frontier
Bulleit calls itself a frontier whiskey and supports people who are pushing the frontiers of their craft or expertise. Whether that is creating the world’s largest tattoo billboard or giving new life to the old craft of neon signs – it is important to push the boundaries. See also #frontierworks.
