The history of sparkling wine goes back thousands of years. Already in Ancient Egypt and Rome, important events were celebrated with a drink similar to sparkling wine. However, it was the French monks in the 17th century who are credited with perfecting the méthode champenoise, the traditional method of producing Champagne, the most famous sparkling wine. Today, sparkling wines are produced worldwide, each region offering unique expressions with distinct characteristics. The best known are Spanish Cava, Italian Prosecco and French Crémant.

Sparkling wine is generally made in two stages. First, a base wine is made. Sugar and yeast are then added to the wine triggering a second fermentation in a sealed vessel. This traps carbon dioxide, creating the signature bubbles

Sparkling wine is produced from white, rose and red wine. The flavours range from drier ones like Brut Nature, Extra Brut and Brut to sweet Demi-Sec, Sec and Doux sparkling wines.

Sparkling wines are best served chilled at 6-8°C in a narrow-mouthed glass to keep those bubbles dancing!

Sparkling wine is perfect as an aperitif and pairs beautifully with light dishes such as salads, seafood and chicken. It also complements desserts and cheeses. And for the cocktail enthusiasts, sparkling wine adds a touch of elegance and a delightful fizz to refreshing drinks like Mimosa and Aperol Spritz.
