Mezcal is a Mexican spirit crafted from a variety of agave plants, primarily in the Oaxaca region. With origins dating back to the Spanish conquest, mezcal is known for its distinctive smoky flavor, achieved through the traditional method of roasting agave hearts in underground pits. Mezcal is traditionally sipped neat at room temperature, often accompanied by thin slices of fresh fruit, such as orange or lime sprinkled with sal de gusano (worm salt).
